About HeritagePlates.net was conceived by a small group of passionate collectors during an informal early morning meeting in early March. I had already toyed with the idea in my own mind for a while and was finally inspired by our conversation and so set about to make those thoughts a reality. The four of us (Duncan Ansell, Martin Stone, Tony Stephens & myself) agreed there was a need for a central point of contact for all Heritage Plate owners and enthusiasts. A website with all the latest news, events and reports was the logical solution... although I'll be taking the concept a little further. Within these pages I'll be sharing my passion and knowledge on Victoria's numeric registration system, it's history through to current day events. The website is in it's infancy, but over time and with submissions from visitors I hope to create a hub of information including a photographic gallery, all the latest auction news and results, educational material, the current status of the court action against the release of the V series plates as well as many other items of interest. At this stage, this website will only feature numeric plates from Victoria within the number range 1 - 285,000. Any numeric numbers above 300,000 will not be shown here as they are recent releases known as 'personalised numerics' and do not fall within the guidelines of an original numeric plate. I will however feature any number which falls within the original numeric block regardless of style including pre 1932 owner provided plates, auction style enamel plates and Bicentennial plates, amongst others. The term 'Heritage' which was first introduced by the issuing authority in 1984 has become common language amongst plate enthusiasts and so will be used as a broad term to describe these plates. Some of you reading this may know I am in the process of writing a second book on Victorian number plates. My first covered the whole spectrum of plates, the second will focus solely on Victorian Heritage Plates, and it's release will coincide with the 100th anniversary of vehicle registrations in this state. I have many people waiting patiently for it's release and through this site I will keep you up to date with the progress. If you wish to contribute information or photographs for use on this website or have any comments or feedback, please use the form within the EMAIL tab at the top of any page. Welcome and enjoy the site! Maurice Mangiagli |
